Books: By Authors: Janice Okun
Janice Okun likes to cook and eat, and talk to people about it. She is a native Buffalonian and a graduate of Cornell University, and was the food editor and restaurant reviewer for The Buffalo News for more than 40 years. For her, the best part of the job was getting to know so many of her fellow Western New Yorkers who like to cook and eat as much as she does. The recipes here reflect those encounters, and her travels. Ms. Okun has eaten her way across six continents; she has consumed snake in China as well as foie gras in Gascony. She is a former president of the Association of Food Journalists and the author, with Eleanor Ostman, of The Best Places to Eat in America: 50 Food Writers Pick the Don’t Miss Restaurants in 50 Cities in the U.S. and Canada (Harpercollins, 1987). Janice Okun still lives in Buffalo, with her husband, Bud Seidenberg, known to generations of readers as "The Companion." They have two grown children, Jane Lenk and Robert Seidenberg, and one grandson, William Lenk. |
